This workshop will is designed to teach you how to plaster over your walls in a standard house with drywall that typically has latex paint. We will teach how to prep the wall, make and mix plaster form easily accessible materials, how to apply it to the wall, and what tools you will need. In order to keep this workshop to one day for more accessibility, it will also have a 2-3 hour zoom component prior to the hands on portion where we will go over all the ‘classroom’ aspects of the learning. This will include topics such as What is clay and how does it work in the mix, how do I find my own clay?, where you can source materials from stores, how to prep the sub-straight, and much more. The hands on day will be focused on application technique, how to use our tools, and how to apply, smooth and compress the plaster for your desired finish.
Registration is closed for this workshop.

Workshop Host

Sasha Rabin

Earthen Shelter was founded by Sasha Rabin in 2013, and is now run by Sasha and her husband John Orcutt. We also just added a new tiny human to our family, who will be joining us for our family run workshops. Sasha Rabin fell in love with natural building in 2002, when she began her building career with an apprenticeship at the Cob Cottage Company. Since then she has taught extensively through organizations that she co-founded, Seven Generations Natural Builders and Vertical Clay, and through collaborations with The Yestermorrow Design Build School, The Canelo Project, Cal-Earth, The Solar Living Institute, and Quail Springs Permaculture. Teaching natural building has brought her as far as the Permaculture Research Institute (PRI) Jordan and PRI Kenya. Sasha currently sits on the Quail Springs board of directors, as well as the Cob Research Institute. After living at Quail Springs and running the Natural Building program for a decade, she has relocated back to northern CA to be closer to family.
